Pineal Glands: It is dorsal evagination of the diencephalic roof. In lower vertebrates, it is a photoreceptor organ, the third eye or pineal eye.
It is covered by the CT of the pia mater. 1° cells are astrocytes and pinealocytes (Ca-deposit called brain sand or corpora arenacea occus is parenchyma)
Pinealocyte- large cells with a large, round nucleus in an acidophilic cytoplasm. The processes of astrocytes surround pinealocytes and contact the perivascular basal lamina.
